Who We Are

Our product: Tomatoes

At Savvidis Greenhouses in Drama, the cultivation of high-quality tomatoes with exceptional organoleptic characteristics is a real challenge.

Every day, our fruits develop under the Greek sun and the cool morning breeze from Mount Falakro, while the plant roots ‘quench their thirst’ from the aquifer of the Angitis River.

Our commitment to high quality ensures long-term reliability and love from consumers. We cultivate large-fruited tomatoes, beef type, weighing 250-280g, under the distinctive title Dramello Fresh, reflecting our dedication to quality and the taste it offers to tomato enthusiasts.

Who We Are

Tomatoe history

were the first to cultivate an ancestor of the tomato with purple color and the size of a pea, quickly naming it ‘tomatl,’ meaning the swelling fruit. The tomato reached Europe during the age of great discoveries, and it took centuries for it to be embraced by the world…

the leader of the French Capuchins monastery planted the first tomatoes in a pot, introducing tomato cultivation to Greece. Initially, Athenians used it as a decorative plant for their gardens and for spoon sweets.

to the Bavarian chefs of King Otto, who introduced new culinary uses. Today, it is an integral part of Greek cuisine, offering rich flavor possibilities.

Our motto is simple

Respecting the Environment

“Safety first.” This pertains not only to the safety of our growers but also to that of consumers and the environment. For us, the environment is more than just a workspace; it’s our home, and it’s our duty to protect it for future generations.

The cultivation process of our tomatoes requires attention and dedication to safety and quality. We specialize in cultivating large-fruited tomatoes, following the high standards of GLOBAL GAP and GRASP, but always based on love and respect for the environment.

All our decisions aim for the lowest possible carbon, water and ecological footprint. The water we use comes from groundwater, and the use of a closed hydroponic system reduces water needs.

For energy production, we use a combined heat and power generator operating on natural gas. The electricity generated is supplied to the grid, while the heat and carbon dioxide from combustion are used in cultivation for photosynthesis after being processed by a modern catalyst system.

Therefore, we also use carbon fertilization in our cultivation to achieve even higher quality and size standards. This further reduces our carbon footprint as most of the carbon dioxide is sequestered by the plants.

we apply an integrated management system using mechanical and biological methods to combat pests, avoiding unnecessary chemical interventions whenever possible.

The result: high-quality products that respect the environment and the safety of all involved.

Cultivation Method

In the heart of Drama’s nature, our enterprise unfolds a unique story among the green pages of our greenhouse.

Our dedication to quality and sustainable cultivation is reflected in each one of our fruits, creating a magical world of flavor.

Mirrors the natural balance we seek. Indomitable bumblebees propel pollination and fruitfulness, ensuring the rich taste of our tomatoes.

We choose the best seeds from certified companies, adhering to high GSPP seed production standards. This attention to detail shapes the essence of our plant development, creating a harmony between nature and science. We are confident that the seeds we use are certified and free from pathogens.

Hydroponic cultivation meets environmentally friendly technologies, giving new meaning to precision agriculture. With arrows in our quiver being mechanical and biological methods of pest control, our plants grow in harmony with the environment and humanity. Leveraging a state-of-the-art low-pressure hydroponic system, we achieve climate control even during the scorching summer Ensuring uninterrupted production of quality tomatoes.

Of deep red color and aromas, rich in lycopene and vitamin C, among other elements highly beneficial for human health and well-being, which are simultaneously rare in other fruits. About us

About us

The story of “Savvidis Greenhouses” began in 2014 with a group of engineers and scientists, including children of farmers and traders deeply rooted in Drama, a rural area that experienced economic prosperity with tobacco production in the last century. Driven by their passion for the land and science, they decided to create something unique.

The Savvidis Greenhouses project represents the third significant step for this team. The variety of scientific and technical knowledge they developed in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, and metal constructions allowed them to passionately construct many of the production facilities. With the addition of agronomists specializing in hydroponics and consultants with decades of experience, they aim to produce the highest quality tomatoes, the queen of Greek vegetables, throughout the year, even during the challenging Greek summer.

“Savvidis Greenhouses” combine modern knowledge with respect for agricultural production, creating an innovative enterprise that connects the past with the future, embracing both the environment and people.
